The house

La Discrète is a semi-detached house at Cap d'Agde, built around its own pool and arranged so that the living room, the kitchen and the water are all part of the same room. It sleeps six.

The living room looks straight out onto the pool, with a leather sofa and a large television. The kitchen is open to it, with the dining table between the two, so whoever is cooking is still in the conversation and still watching the swimmers. Both floors are air-conditioned — the ground floor and the mansard bedroom upstairs — which in an Agde August is the difference between using the house in the afternoon and hiding from it.

Two bedrooms hold three double beds between them, with one bathroom and a separate WC. There is an equipped kitchen, a washing machine, a dishwasher, and a garage as well as parking, which matters more than it sounds in a resort town in high season.

Outside

The pool is 6 × 3 metres and entirely private — not shared with neighbours, not overlooked by another let. A wooden deck runs around it, shaded by palms and banana trees, and the garden closes it in.

It is the size of pool a family actually uses rather than admires: long enough to swim a few strokes, small enough to heat through by mid-morning and to keep an eye on from the kitchen.

Around you

The everyday things are ten metres from the door — a bakery, a greengrocer, and a small restaurant. That is the particular luxury of this house: bread in the morning without moving the car.

The beach is a kilometre away, as are the Lidl and the Hyper U for a proper shop. The centres of Le Grau d'Agde and Cap d'Agde are both around two kilometres, near enough to cycle, far enough that the noise of the resort stays where it belongs.

Beyond that you are in the Hérault, in Occitanie: beaches and water sports on the doorstep, but also golf, riding, fishing, walking, and the eating and drinking the region is known for.

Who it suits

Six people who want a pool to themselves and a bakery on the corner. It works particularly well for two families sharing, or for grandparents with children in tow — the ground floor bedroom means not everyone has to climb stairs.

Most of the year the house is let by the week with a seven-night minimum; in spring that drops to four nights. For longer stays, ask — David and Hélène will make a proposal.
